The owner of a tortoise that has become an internet sensation has said he cannot believe the reaction a video of his daughter’s pet has had.
Paul Milham posted a video of his daughter Ciara’s tortoise Bubba pushing a purple ball around the living room of their house in Bedgrove.
The video has since had more than 60 million views online and the story of the speedy tortoise has been picked up by national media.
Mr Milham said: “We let Bubba out of his pen so he can wander round the house every day.
“He’s a young, male tortoise and we had the ball on the floor and he went after it.
“We thought it was quite funny so we filmed it and put it on Twitter.
“We then went away for the weekend and it got thousands of views.
“Normally my Twitter posts only get a few likes so this has just been bizarre.
“Newsflare (a video sharing site) promoted it and then we got millions of views through The Lad Bible and thousands through YouTube.”
Bubba was given to Ciara by friends as a Christmas present and he is still a juvenile tortoise, aged between four and five years old.
Mr Milham, who is the chairman of the youth section at Aylesbury Rugby Club said: “Bubba is a sociable little creature who likes to stand next people and is a great pet.
“I think our cat is a bit jealous of all the attention he is getting!”
Ciara, 12, a pupil at Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School, has been very coy about all the attention her pet has been receiving.
Mr Milham said: “I went to speak to one of her teachers to say is it OK if we take her out of school for an hour so she can do a radio interview.
“He asked what it was about and when I said it was about her speedy tortoise he was aware of the story but not because Ciara had said anything.
“She is enjoying the attention he’s having though.”
