It’s not the sight that most people expect to see as they walk down a road in Aylesbury.

But this royal python was captured in Stanhope Road earlier today, after a passer-by spotted it lurking in a hedge.

They took the snake to the police station, and bobbies issued a social media appeal, joking that perhaps the snake was late for a COBRA meeting - a cheeky reference to David Cameron’s high level security briefings.

Luckily the snake’s owner spotted their pet on Twitter, and were delighted to be reunited after two days appart.

It is believed that the python had escaped through an open window.

The snakes, which are not venomous, usually feast on baby rats and insects.

If any member of the public finds an animal, they are asked to call the RSPCA, or consider taking it to St Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital in Haddenham.
