'How can Tesco discriminate against Aylesbury students?'
Today's correspondent has hit out at a supermarket's decision to ban groups of students.
In today's world of political correctness, one would have thought that discrimination, where possible, is avoided.
It is indeed considered wrong to discriminate against gender, race or ethnicity; yet why is age still acceptable?
Over the recent months the students of Aylesbury High School and Aylesbury Grammar School have been refused service at the normal tills at the Tring Road Tesco.
No decent explanation has ever been given to any student, just the blunt response that "you have to go to the self-service tills".
Despite this seeming prejudice, students abided by the unwritten rule. Yet now I believe the money churning food chain has taken it one step too far.
On June 22, students were actually refused entry to the shop, on the basis that we were only allowed in two at a time, and only when fellow students had come out of the shop. When asked to explain further, the only reason that was given was: "it's to reduce congestion".
If this new 'scheme' really is to reduce the so-called 'congestion', then why not open up the unused tills, which everyone else is entitled to, instead of forcing us to queue in our many for the self-service tills? Quite frankly, it's gone too far now. We are being discriminated against merely for the fact that we are in education; and to be honest I have never heard anything quite so ridiculous.
Tesco thrives off of the students' money, and if they're honestly prepared to create boundaries for us that are not to be applied to anyone else, then we will take our custom elsewhere.
