Homeless man lucky to be alive after crash near Aylesbury

A homeless man says he is lucky to be alive after a car crashed into the side of his camper van as he slept.

Keith Burnham was asleep in the early hours of Friday when the collision happened, on the A418 between Bierton and Rowsham.

He said: "I was asleep in the van, which was parked in a layby.

"My bed was on the side that was hit.

"I was lucky to be alive, it's done a lot of damage."

And Mr Burnham, who has lived in the van for more than two years, said: "It frightened me to death, if I'd had a heart condition I'd have been dead.

"The bed I was sleeping on collapsed."

Police and ambulance staff were called to the scene shortly after 12.10am.

A police spokeswoman said: "A silver Volkswagen Polo appears to have hit a puddle and gone off into the layby, where it was in collision with a caravan which was parked there.

"The driver of the Polo was taken to hospital with a minor head injury.

"The owner of the caravan was uninjured."
