Staff returning to work several pounds heavier after Christmas and New Year have been challenged to lose the weight they have gained by enjoying ‘active’ lunch breaks.
Leap, the sport and activity partnership for Bucks & Milton Keynes, is urging people to use their lunch breaks to get fit by taking part in the ‘Workplace Challenge’ – a scheme where companies and individuals compete to see who is the most active.
The idea is that workers spur each other on during social exercise and activities that will improve their health and increase productivity when they return to their offices.
Chris Gregory, senior development manager at Leap said: “We’re challenging you to move more during your lunch break.
“Grab your colleagues and swap soggy sandwiches for a swift stroll, cycle, swim or exercise class and revolutionise your lunch break.
“Most of us spend half the hours we’re awake at work, but even though you’re back at work and as busy as ever, you can still make good on those New Year’s get fit resolutions.”
People taking part in the Workplace Challenge can keep each other motivated by tracking their progress on the scheme’s website or app, where they can also find details of competitions to enter and ideas on how to get active.
