Stop smoking poster campaign

A poster competition has been started to promote the benefits of quitting smoking.

Bucks Smokefree Support Service (BSSS) is asking local young people to design a poster with the top prize of Wycombe Wanderers Football Club tickets and merchandise.

Entries are to be based on the theme 'Break Free!', this year's No Smoking Day theme, and they can be produced by hand or on the computer and can be from one person or a group as long as one school-aged person is involved.

Nicki Blyth, Specialist Smokefree Support Adviser, said: "We are keen to encourage as many young people as possible to come up with imaginative and innovative poster designs to help promote the benefits of being free from smoking".

The prize giving will take the form of a photo call on March 6 at Adam's Park, prior to the match between Wycombe Wanderers and Carlisle.

The winner will receive a framed copy of their poster and, along with the two runners up, a family ticket to the match and WWFC merchandise.

Most smokers (about 70%) say they would rather not be smoking but many feel trapped by the addictive daily habit.

The Bucks Smokefree Support Service has helped over 12,000 people in Buckinghamshire to stop smoking over the last decade and many say at the end of their support programme that they have gained a new freedom.

Rita, aged 60, from Aylesbury, who recently stopped smoking with BSSS said the best thing is that smoking "doesn't have a hold over me anymore".
