Fond farewell to one of Aylesbury's best known fundraisers
ONE of Aylesbury's best known fundraisers has died.
Harry Smith, 89, of Reynolds Drive, Aylesbury had carried out voluntary work for a whole host of charities across the town. Among those to benefit from his tireless efforts were the Bucks Association for the Blind, Dial-a-Ride and Stoke Mandeville's Wheelpower.
Harry also supported RAF Halton's fundraising events.
When he was able to, Harry marked his birthday with a series of physical challenges to raise money for the Bucks Association for Blind and Partially Sighted People.
Harry, registered blind, rowed, swam and bowled his way around the Vale to celebrate his 87th birthday.
In 2006, Harry was named Aylesbury Vale District Council's Volunteer of the Year.
Sigrid Muller, who nominated him, said: "In view of his never-ending enthusiasm to give his time and effort to help others, I feel very strongly that Harry deserves some form of recognition for his good work."
