PETER BENENSON, founder of Amnesty International, lived in Westcott for many years and was a friend to residents needing legal advice as he was a barrister. A book on his life, written by David Winner, is available from the County Library in a series entitled People who have helped the world. A book of memoirs by his mother, Flora Solomon, entitled Baku to Baker Street gives a fascinating account of her life and Peter's earlier life as a child. Peter's daughter married a Westcott boy, the son of a one-time resident.
