Stand up and ben counted over health cuts
PEOPLE in Aylesbury are being urged to attend a public meeting tomorrow (Thursday) to discuss the future provision of healthcare in Aylesbury Vale.
Aylesbury Town Council has called the meeting in response to The Bucks Herald's Dear Patricia campaign. Cllr Jenny Puddefoot, the deputy mayor of Aylesbury, said the event was an opportunity to express their worries and fears, which will then be fed back to interested parties.
The Aylesbury meeting is being held at the Multicultural Centre on Thursday September 21 from 7pm until 9pm. All are welcome.
Cllr Puddefoot said: "We want to hear your views on the future for healthcare provision for Aylesbury. This is about how the town council and individuals can respond. We want to know about the position people want to see.
"Their views can move things forward and I hope there are sufficient people there to put pressure on the county council's overview and scrutiny for public health services to publicly consult on these proposals."
The meeting will be chaired by the Mayor of Aylesbury, Cllr Niknam Hussain, and Cllr Puddefoot said that, if levels of concern were high, the town council could set up its own health services scrutiny committee.
Meanwhile in Buckingham, a similar event will take place a week today at the town's community centre. Town councillor Robin Stutchbury, who has already collected nearly 400 signatures for our Dear Patricia campaign, said MPs and 46 parishes from North Bucks have been invited to attend.
And 8,000 leaflets advertising the meeting will be sent out with The Buckingham and Winslow Advertiser, which is also campaigning on this issue, on Friday after Buckingham Colour Press agreed to print the leaflets for free.
The Buckingham meeting is being held in the Buckingham Community Centre on September 27 at 7.30pm.
A spokesman for the Vale of Aylesbury Primary Care Trust said a representative would not be sent to either meeting, as staff consultation on the proposed cuts had only just finished and no firm proposals have yet been drawn up.
