Slideshow: Proms in the Park entertains the crowds
AYLESBURY Town Council organised the Proms in the Park event which entertained crowds of people who turned up on Saturday evening to get tuned in.
As always, the event now in its seventh year was free to the public and started with a festival picnic. Over 700 people turned up to Vale Park to listen to a variety of band music being played, a soprano performance and two encores.
Aylesbury Community Concert Band led by new conductor Duncan Stubbs played Yankee Doodle, Overture to Candide and a selection of songs from West Side Story amongst others. Soprano, Jill Neenan sang Summertime by George Gershwin and Wish You Were Somehow Here by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Talented musicians from across the district also performed traditional proms favourites such as Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia and Jerusalem. Two encores ended the night.
ATC events co-ordinator, Cllr Ray Ghent, said that the audience enjoyed themselves and the first people to arrive were over two hours early.
He added: "The stage looked great and the band played well.
"It was much better than last year."
