Pitstone and Ivinghoe, November 14
ROYAL BRITISH LEGION. Eighteen members and wives of Ivinghoe and Pitstone Branch of The Royal British Legion recently enjoyed an informal lunch at The Bell Inn, Pitstone, where landlord Ian and his wife Clare provided an excellent (and substantial) meal which was appreciated by everyone.
During the course of the afternoon members were joined by county field administrator, Dot O'Kane. She was accompanied by county chairman Bill Kerr, who spoke of the importance of the Poppy Appeal and the help it provides in assisting the Legion to meet its commitments with a huge range of issues.
These included counselling, job retraining, skills assessment, getting the right pensions and benefits, advice and interest free loans for setting up small businesses, welfare grants, Remembrance Travel to war graves, convalescent and nursing care, and home and hospital visits. For more details of the Legion's work, visit the web-site at www.britishlegion.org/index.cfm. Meanwhile, among those collecting for the local Poppy appeal was Joe Marling who regularly collects outside Masons Store, Pitstone with his Second World War vehicles.
