Pitsone and Ivinghoe, December 12

THE BELLS, THE BELLS... Corrall McCormack, editor of the Parish News newsletter, and also a dedicated bell ringer, has had enquiries about the local church bells ringing at odd times and days in November - and has put the record straight in her latest editorial.

On Saturday 17, it was Ivinghoe's turn to hold the monthly branch bell practice, with people from all over the area coming to visit and ring.

And on Tuesday November 20, churches all over the diocese (and probably the whole country) were asked to ring for the Diamond Wedding Anniversary of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. Jim and Mary Richardson, Bob Lilley, Joan Horn, Charles Thorogood, Lukas McCormack and Corral did the honours. Mystery solved!

FANTASTIC FAYRE. Brookmead School PTA's Christmas Fayre on Saturday December 1 was a great success with takings of 2,005.71. "There was a large turnout and it was lovely to see so many families enjoying themselves," said spokesperson Emma Burton.

"Father Christmas was kept very busy and we are glad he was able to make time for us in his hectic schedule."

On behalf of the committee, Emma thanked all volunteers who helped run the stalls, without whom the day would not have been possible. The Arts and Crafts Room was extremely popular again, with Mr and Mrs Craft, Miss Stratford, Miss Webb and Mrs Darby getting in a sticky mess helping the children with their creations. Some talented crafts people and cake bakers made a variety of gifts and goodies, including Jane Bone, Liz Smith, Jackie Reynolds and Katie McClaren.

This year the PTA is raising money to refurbish the arts and cookery rooms and also buy globes and digital cameras.

"We are now on the way to reaching this target thanks to the help and support of all the parents who came along," said Emma Burton.

DOES JESUS LIKE CAKE? St Mary's Church, Pitstone with Ivinghoe's, children's club, 'Does Jesus Like Cake' will next be held at Yardley Lounge, Yardley Avenue in the New Year.

There was no December meeting due to it falling on the same day as the church Crib Festival and the School Bazaar.

NEXT SONGS OF PRAISE. There is no Songs of Praise in Yardley Lounge this month, but it will be back again in January.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL CLUB BINGO NIGHT. It's Christmas Bingo Night for Pitstone and Ivinghoe Junior Football Club on Friday December 21. Doors open on the club's last fundraiser of 2007 at 6.30pm and it's eyes down at 7.30pm.

CORRECTION. The Nativity Play at 10am on Thursday December 20 in Pitstone Memorial Hall Pitstone is being produced by Windmill Pre-school and not Ivinghoe Baby and Toddler Group as reported last week. Apologies for confusion.
