Ford and Upton, January 30

Dinton Ford and Upton Parish Council Meeting Chairman of the parish council, Diana Coole, presided over the January meeting and amongst matters reported and considered were the following:

Parish Precept. Councillors had been asked to consider this at the previous parish council meeting and after general discussion a figure of 17,000 was proposed, being a six per cent increase on last year's precept, which was agreed.

Old Playground Proposal. Rebecca Lyall reported to councillors on the quotes she had received from various contractors relating to a sportswall and other similar equipment.

Before any final decisions are made, councillors will visit local sites where this type of equipment has already been installed to assess its construction, impact and suitability for the Dinton playground. The young people who first put forward suggestions for this older play area will be asked for their assessments on the sportswall and if they have any comments or criticism regarding other local sites layouts and provisions so that a decision may be made as to the Dinton future plans.

Removal of approximately 15 metres of hedge will be necessary to enable contractors and maintenance work to be undertaken on site.

Annual Parish Meeting. This is to be held on Tuesday April 8 and it is proposed to ask Emilia Hands, the historic buildings and conservation officer, to speak on her work within the parish area.

It was also requested that the AVDC arboriculturist be invited to speak on the current situation relating to diseases in the chestnut trees and other species. As usual, representatives from parish organisations will be issued with invitations to attend.

Parish Footpaths. Councillors discussed the application for a proposed diversion of part of Footpath No 3 around Dinton Folly which they were anxious to retain whilst still being mindful of all safety aspects regarding those walking the footpath. Les Sheldon reported that he had been told of a couple of stiles needing attention to broken steps and access, and he is dealing with them. He did ask councillors and parishioners when walking the footpaths to advise him of any further necessary repairs required within the parish boundaries.

Planning Applications. The following applications were considered - 07/03240/AOP -Stromness, Ford, erection of detached dwelling and 07/03189/APP - land at Main Road, Ford - Construction of Manege. Councillors were aware that several Ford residents had sent in various objections to the Stromness application, particularly relating to its close proximity to other properties, and the safety aspects for vehicular access on to the road and opposite Burgess Lane since many drivers do not respond to the requested 30mph speed limit when going through the village and passing this property. In relation to the manege application, councillors will request that no artificial lighting be included in its construction.

Parish Council Meeting Dates. It was agreed that each second Tuesday of the month continues to be the date for the parish council meetings but that a decision relating to whether there will be a meeting in August will be made nearer the time and depending on any planning applications and other required matters needing their immediate attention.

Date of next meeting. The next parish council meeting will be Tuesday February 12 in Dinton Village Hall, commencing at 7.30pm to which all parishioners are warmly invited to attend.
