Dear Patricia campaign hits the streets
OUR Dear Patricia campaign hit the streets of Buckingham on Saturday and, thanks to the efforts of town councillors Robin Stutchbury, Derrick Isham, Tingewick parish councillor Pat Swinburn and Access for All's Ed Grimsdale, more than 1,500 people have now signed up to our petition.
The group, which included Cllr Stutchbury's mother Rosemary, was outside The Old Gaol for a couple of hours and collected nearly 400 signatures in that time. More signatures are also expected and the forms are available in Tingewick Post Office.
Cllr Stutchbury said there was strong support for the campaign from everyone he spoke to.
He said: "They were horrified when I explained the extent of the cuts. Even people who didn't read the paper were signing up.
"We must carry on campaigning and fight this. Holding a public meeting is the right thing to do. People cannot understand the need for cuts when the Government claims it has put more money into the NHS than ever before. They want to know where it has gone.
"We will keep up the pressure and try and get a positive solution to the problems in this area," he said.
Cllr Stutchbury said Buckingham would be holding its own public meeting on September 27 at 7.30pm in Buckingham Community Centre.
He said he would contact all the surrounding parishes to ask for their support.
