Aylesbury embraces Armed Forces Day

Hundreds of wellwishers lined the streets of Aylesbury on Saturday to celebrate Britain's Armed Forces and you can watch the parade here on BHTV.

Dignitaries, cadets and veterans paraded from Market Square to Kingsbury, accompanied by military bands. This was followed

by an inspection of the troops, speeches, prayers and a one minute's silence.

The event, part of the nationwide Armed Forces Day, was organised by Aylesbury Vale District Council.

Cllr Janet Blake, chairman of the council, said: "It is important

that the Armed Forces are shown support and gratitude for what they achieve on their missions.

"They and their predecessors enable us to live our lives today in peace and freedom, something we should all be grateful for."

Another of the dignitaries in attendance was Aylesbury Mayor Graham Webster.

He said: "Whatever is going on in the world today, whether it be Iraq or Afghanistan or anywhere else, these are youngsters going into the Armed Forces and this is about showing them our support and that we are behind them wherever they are.

"We should not forget that in this instance it was a very peaceful

parade of cadets who have chosen the Armed Forces as an interest to them."

More than 355 events took place around the country to mark the second annual Armed Forces Day.
