Ducks urged to get on board with Aylesbury FC plan
A correspondent has implored Aylesbury United to put aside their concerns about heritage and join forces with Aylesbury FC for the good of football in the town.
I'M sure that many of you read my letter to the Football Association a number of weeks ago now about the state of Aylesbury United FC.
Since then myself and a friend of mine, Ashleigh De Cruz, who feels similarly about the Ducks as I do have been very busy organising meetings and trying to come up with ideas of how we could help football in Aylesbury. We met with David Lidington the local MP which seemingly came to nothing, and have met several times now with the ex manager of Aylesbury United Mark Eaton.
Since these meetings a lot has happened and as I am sure most of you are now aware of the new football club born in the town named Aylesbury FC. The original plan was for the two main teams in Aylesbury to become one big force playing in Aylesbury starting from scratch playing at Haywood Way, but preserving The Ducks famous history.
This idea would have been for the good of both Aylesbury clubs which, as they were in Vale's case or are in United's case, are seemingly going nowhere whilst playing out of the town on a very tight budget and with the prospect of another season out of Aylesbury and a return looking less likely than ever.
I feel saddened the Ducks have failed to come on board with this venture as it would see them back in the town, which is what everyone wants, raising a budget from the gate which would be a larger with them playing in Aylesbury rather than Chesham, Leighton Buzzard or anywhere else.
It would also bring in money from the bar, and burger van which is money that playing elsewhere is going to their landlord club. This extra money coming in would make for a bigger budget therefore surely only improving results on the pitch.
In my eyes with the current situation only someone with major money can put United back on the right road but I do not see someone with the amounts needed coming along and the council is not offering any lifelines, so unfortunately I predict that United's future is ominous and the club will soon be no more and this could be prevented by a simple name change and the swallowing of pride of some of the United hierarchy who could have been involved in a new chapter of Aylesbury football.
I will support United until the end as I have fond memories of watching their success when I was younger, but I feel it is not to late for them to join forces with Aylesbury FC so I and all the other Ducks fans can have an enjoyable and successful future and maybe we can relive some of them great past memories.
Lastly having met with Mark Eaton who is at the heart of the new Aylesbury club I feel a lot of the criticism coming his way is undue. There are not many bigger United fans out there than Mark and he would not have become part of AFC had he felt it was not the best thing for United. He wants what we all want and that is a successful team we can all be proud of again.
The fact United are not going to be a part of that upsets him more than anyone but he is a realist and feels the best chance of a successful Aylesbury team lies in the new club.
Come on United the time is now don't let us be sitting here a few months down the line thinking what if, join forces and lets get the whole of Aylesbury supporting one club that can hopefully roll back the years and put Aylesbury back on the footballing map.
