Don't let the Beaver become extinct
Wingrave Scout Group has a wonderful group of youngsters who meet weekly for fun, games and learning, according to Scouting traditions.
From the age of six, they enjoy themselves in our lovely Scout hut at the far end of Chiltern Road and in a variety of other venues across Aylesbury Vale, taking part in activities and competitions with
other Scout Groups.
We have the youngsters, what we need now are some adults to help
all this happen.
Our Beaver leader Sue is leaving after almost 10 years of service to Wingrave Beavers. Beaver parent Karen has agreed to take over from Sue, but she needs someone to share her duties in this most rewarding role. They will work alongside Sue's other very experienced leader Jan.
Beavers are aged from six to eight and currently meet Monday evenings from 6.15 - 7.15pm.
Nikki runs Cubs, with some excellent assistance from Steve
and Jane. They meet on Tuesdays from 6.30-8pm.
Scouts unfortunately closed 18 months ago when Jeff retired and we didn't manage to secure a replacement, leaving a large number of Scouts without a troop.
If someone (preferably more than just one person) would like to run either Cubs (aged 8 -10) or Scouts (10 - 14) the other leaders are happy to move around to enable all sections to be active once again. How fantastic that would be!
Don't think that you'll be abandoned once you take on the role; there is training to ensure you know what to do, along with guidance on activities and programmes.
Our current leaders have lots of experience and are all easy going and very supportive.
They are more than willing to give help and advice, not just at the beginning, but ongoing too. Why not pop along to a meeting and observe it for yourself.
To reiterate, we need a Beaver leader urgently, otherwise the Beaver section may face closure.
If we also get a Cub or Scout Leader we can re-open the Scout section.
What now? Well… anyone even slightly interested should talk to Sue or Nikki on Monday or Tuesday evenings at the Scout Hut, or phone Jeff Pollard (our Group Scout Leader) on Aylesbury 01296 625454.
