A ticket machine at a train station has been damaged after a thief attempted to break into it.

Police are appealing for information after the incident at Wendover Railway Station just after 1am on Saturday March 14.

PC Chris Woolley said: “A security bar on a ticket vending machine was cut through, and the outer cover of the machine drilled into.

“Fortunately, the would-be-thief failed to break the lock, but they were clearly intent on breaking in.”

Officers believe the person responsible may have arrived in a blue Ford Focus or Fiesta.

They also think other people were at the station or in the surrounding area at the time of the incident.

PC Woolley said: “We need anyone who saw anything unusual at Wendover station on the night of this incident to get in touch.

“The thief was unsuccessful on this occasion, but we need to find them before they try something like this again.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference MSUB/B4 of 24/03/2015.

Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
