Detectives have released CCTV images of a suspected sex pest following an incident in which a 16-year-old girl was touched up on a train.

British Transport Police officers are asking for the public’s help in connection with the incident, which occurred on the 10:39pm Harrow-on-the-Hill to Amersham service on Saturday May 25.

Detective Constable Chris Church leading the investigation said: “At around 11pm the 16-year-old victim, from Buckinghamshire, was sitting in an almost-empty carriage when a man sat next to her and began to touch her inappropriately.

“When the girl moved to another part of the train, the man followed her and sat close by again.

“This was an incredibly frightening experience for the girl, and one that only stopped when another passenger stepped in to check if she was alright.

“At this point, the man fled the train at Amersham station.”

The incident was first reported by a witness, but officers were only able to make contact with the victim after police appeal posters at local railway stations prompted her to get in touch.

DC Church said: “Who is the man in the pictures?

“That’s the question that I need local people to help me answer.

“I think he might have vital information that could greatly assist this investigation.

“If you recognise him, or have any other information, please get in touch.

“British Transport Police takes sexual offences on the rail network very seriously and will always fully investigate all incidents reported to us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference ESUB/B6 of 08/07/2014.
