Chiltern Railways 'most punctual' operator in country
Chiltern Railways is the most punctual and reliable train operator in the UK, according to a monthly industry report.
The company, which runs services from Aylesbury to London Marylebone, was the highest performing rail operator with 97.3 per cent of trains running on time.
It says its achievement is all the better as its services are categorised as late if they arrive five minutes after the scheduled time, whereas long distance operators' trains are not considered late until ten minutes after their scheduled time.
Keith Doughty, operations director at Chiltern Railways, said: "We are delighted by this result and it is a testimony to the hard work put in by everyone at Chiltern Railways to provide a punctual service for passengers.
"Our passengers tell us that the things most important to them are a safe, punctual train service and a comfortable seat, and this is what we aim to provide every day."
Since being awarded the franchise in 1996, Chiltern Railways has invested more than 400 million to improve the railway and stations.
The company is currently working on a 250 million project to reduce journey times to London by 20 per cent with no recourse to the taxpayer.
Network Rail compiled the report.
