Charity helping people speak up needs advocates

Could you help people to speak up and have their voices heard?

A charity that offers a free, confidential and independent advocacy service to help people understand their rights and have a say in decisions about their lives needs volunteer advocates.

POhWER helps people who may have an illness or disability, be lacking in confidence or feel that they are in a vulnerable situation and that they need an independent person to provide support and ensure that their voices are heard.

It can help by giving clear information, talking to professionals, attending meetings, making phone calls or writing letters on a client’s behalf.

POhWER covers the whole of Buckinghamshire and are currently looking for volunteer advocates to join the friendly team.

Volunteer advocates are good listeners, open minded, helpful, non-judgemental and respectful of the choices of others.

They have excellent communication skills and a good mind for problem solving. They are able to volunteer for a few hours a week on a regular basis.

All volunteers are given full training and ongoing support to enable them to deliver the best possible service for clients.

This is an opportunity to develop old skills and learn new ones, influence positive changes in peoples lives, meet new people and become part of a team. Any reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed by POhWer.
