Wendover's Nick takes charge of £5m fund for Vale farmers
A Wendover man has been appointed manager of a £5million funding scheme for Aylesbury Vale farmers.
Nick Phillips is now employed by Thame based ngage solutions, the local provider of Business Link services and which is responsible for delivering the 'Leader' programme.
The money is available between now and 2013 in the Aylesbury Vale area, and is targeted to support farmers, foresters and other rural businesses in their diversification, including to take advantage of tourism, and also to carry out projects that will benefit local communities.
Mr Phillips has joined the programme from the National Trust, where he was the property manager for the Chilterns and Aylesbury Vale areas for seven years.
The 40 year old said: "We are already looking at a number of really exciting and innovative projects from new start small businesses to a range of farm diversification projects.
"The real driver behind the programme is how much we can help add value to the rural communities.
"It is still early days but the project has already been able to support a shop in rural location, a farm shop, support a forester in purchasing equipment, a farmer in developing a meat processing unit and a wood fuel business.
"It seems there is no end to the expertise and innovation out there."
