Old factory site in Aylesbury to move into fast lane

A disused factory in Aylesbury could be transformed into a motoring hub, creating dozens of new jobs.

The old Kerry site in Gatehouse Road, which has been vacant for around nine months, is owned by Aylesbury Vale Estates – the commercial property arm of the district council – has just been demolished.

Plans are at an early stage, but one proposal being put forward is for the land to become a motor industry hub.

Peter Bridgman, a partner at Brown & Lee Clifford Billings, the agents for the site, said: "A franchise motor dealer could go in there but more likely it will be smaller scale buildings and could be servicing, tyres, exhausts or accessories, that sort of thing.

"The likelihood is putting a terrace on the front of perhaps four or five buildings and there's land at the rear as well that will provide accommodation for other businesses that don't necessarily need road frontage."

This suggests potential for an industrial type unit.

Mr Bridgman added that they were in discussions with two potential occupiers, including a local business looking to expand.

He said building work could begin within one year.

Graham Cole, director of Aylesbury Vale Estates, said: "The building on there previously was defunct, there's no way it will ever be used by anybody else – it is a massive industrial bakery."

He said no firm decisions had yet been made on the future of the site.

"It could be something more visible like motor spare parts or something else applicable to a main road.

"It is not beyond the wit of man to have a hotel there but that is unlikely.

"If someone comes along with ideas we are quite happy to listen to those."
