Mike aims to make it a full house at Aylesbury's Gala Bingo

Mike Ellis has become the new general manager of Gala Bingo in Aylesbury High Street.

The 39 year old, who is originally from Scarborough, started in the bingo industry as a teenager and has carried out various roles since then, including general assistant and main stage caller.

He left Gala Bingo in East London five years ago, and between then and his latest role he has worked as a development manager for a finance company, group general manager of a restaurant, pub and hotel chain, and most recently as a manager of leisure facilities at a caravan park in the north of England.

Mr Ellis, who is responsible for 15 staff, said the smoking ban had had a negative effect on bingo halls, but he added: "I am going to try and revive the club. It has been through a lot of managers in a short space of time and I want to steady the ship and bring back the good times.

"I will be looking to get involved in community projects.

"We have an annual charity which we focus on, which this year is Sue Ryder, and we will look to do events for that."

He added: "People are doing things (playing bingo) online now but you don't get to interact with people.

"Bingo is a social game and a good environment to make friends or bring friends along, and it is a reasonably cheap night out too."
