Horses break down barriers

HORSES Helping People, a non-profit organisation based near Aston Clinton that offers therapeutic horsemanship and equine facilitated learning, opened this week.

With the help of Business Link, Horses Helping People has recently received funding from the Buckinghamshire Foundation and the Aylesbury Vale Community Chest Fund, both of which exist to support projects that benefit the local community.

Horses Helping People was formed by Dave Johnson and Debbie La-Haye who both have a background of teaching Western riding and training horses.

Inspired by a lifetime of benefiting from sharing the company of horses, including their time spent over the last seven years working with adults with enduring mental health issues, they realised just how much horses can be used therapeutically, with amazing results, for a wide range of people.

Debbie said: "We want to break down some barriers between the general public and disadvantaged groups."
