HOMEWARE trial store HomeStore & More in Aylesbury is set to close as a result of the ‘extremely difficult market’.

Argos’ parent Home Retail Group has revealed that it is to close all of its UK HomeStore & More stores, including its shop on Aylesbury Shopping Park.

The store, which employs 32 people, is to be shut by the end of February, ending a trial venture through which the group – which also owns Homebase – had hoped to grow its homewares business.

A spokesman from HomeStore & More said: “We have completed a period of employee consultation for the closure of HomeStore & More in Aylesbury.

“The store, which opened in October 2007, has not achieved the required level of financial return, particularly in light of the extremely difficult market conditions.

“There are 32 colleagues affected by this consultation.

“We will endeavour to redeploy as many as possible of those impacted elsewhere in the Home Retail Group, which includes stores Argos and Homebase.

“There are 450 people working for the group within a 10-mile catchment of Aylesbury.”

Very good point GDE, I suspect, though, that a bit of palm greasing has been going on. After all, a major player moving into the town centre has to be a coup for the management company. I wonder what sweeteners H&M were offered to sign the deal? I wonder if H&M are aware that a large retail unit is coming on the market (one that is already kitted out! and, more importantly, one that offers free parking on the doorstep)

Why doesn;t H&M move to Home store & Mores unit & leave the bowling alley & the closters where they are!!!

I for one am not surprised that they are closing - they claim to be a Home Store & More yet they only sell the '& more', there were no homes there !

GDE, you must have read my post "Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 11:35 AM A pity these small retaillers can't band together to rent a large unit in one of the retail parks & set it out inside like an indoor market - that really would be the death knell for Aylesbury town centre."

Wouldn't it be good if the Cloister could relocate in that unit

Everything was too expensive in there (£20 for a candle!!!) - It basically overpriced itself to death.
