An Aylesbury Vale business support services firm has been put in the spotlight as one of the best performers in Buckinghamshire.
SLR Management, an environmental consultancy firm based in Menmarsh Road, Worminghall, is highlighted as the ‘stand-out’ company in its sector in a new report.
The report, called Buckinghamshire Limited, has been compiled by financial and business advisors Grant Thornton. It paints a positive picture of business in the county, with turnover and employment up 12.9 per cent and 8.2 per cent respectively.
Business support services are identified as one of nine key sectors across the county, with 18 of the top 100 firms in the sector, lead by SLR. Turnover rose by 14.4 per cent in the year to 2013 although the overall picture was mixed with employment falling.
The report didn’t focus on individual company finances but put them all together to give an overall picture. It aggregated the most recent official company fiancial reports in the year up to June 2013.
Mike Hughes, of Grant Thornton, said: “We were expecting the results to be good and they are.”
However, the report’s authors said while the results were positive they may have been affected by one-off factors. The national economy was recovering from the shock of recession.
Mr Hughes said: “The figures may be soft, so it will be interesting to come back next year and see how things have changed.”
The figures show that the top 100 firms with their main address in Buckinghamshire had a combined turnover of £3.5billion and employ a total of 17,555 people.
David Newstead, of Grant Thornton, said: “We are able to compare Buckinghamshire with other counties and we are able to say that it is outperforming them in key areas. It will be interesting to see if this remains the case.”
