A budding photographer who was given the all-clear from leaukemia a year and a half ago has been given her big break – thanks to a newly-opened hair salon.
Jess Taylor, 21, from Aylesbury, was diagnosed with a brain tumour as a young girl in 2000 and had three head operations, chemotherapy and radiotherapy as she battled the condition.
The Buckingham Park resident said: “I lost my hair during the treatment and since 2009 I have worn a wig.
“This made me lose a lot of confidence and I was worried what people would think and whether they would employ me for a job.”
Miss Taylor’s passion for photography started two years ago.
She said: “I was told I had a knack for it so I started taking lots of pictures.
“I have completely taught myself and been building up my portfolio so I am very grateful for this opportunity.”
Alex and Kelly Young, the owners of Salon 14, which opened in Edison Road, Aylesbury a few weeks ago came across Miss Taylor’s profile on Instagram.
Mrs Young said: “We wanted a photographer to do some pictures for promotional boards for our new salon.
“Jess came and told us her story and about her battle with leaukemia.
“We want to train and work with young people in Aylesbury and this is a great opportunity to do that.”
