This delightful scene was captured in 1908 by local photographer Arthur Locke of Park Street.
He was visiting the Red Lion in Kingsbury. The landlord, Sidney Sewell is seen patting his dog while his wife, Mary and daughter Dorothy watch the chickens feeding.
The family came to Aylesbury from London in 1906 and ran the inn for two years. When they left to go back to London they were presented with a tantalus (a wooden case containing decanters).
They apparently made quite an impression with the locals.
I wonder what they would think of the old place now? It would probably be quite a shock.
The courtyard has since been built over and the building is now home to the new Fever & Boutique bar.
