Aylesbury's Waterside scheme reaches its first milestone
THE new £5million Walton Street multi-storey car park marked an important milestone for Aylesbury this week.
The 525 space car park became the first aspect of Waterside to be opened to the public on Monday.
The five-storey car park will cover for the spaces lost when the Civic Centre car park is demolished, and provide the extra spaces needed when Waterside is finally built.
It includes 28 disabled users' spaces, 30 CCTV cameras, 10 emergency help points and will be open 24 hours a day. Charges, which are paid for 'on foot' in the same way as at Friars Square Shopping Centre, range from 70p for one hour, up to 4 for more than five hours.
Much of the concrete, bricks and blocks arising from the demolition of the ex-services club, which the car park replaces, were recycled and reused within the ground works.
In another major step forward, AVDC has signed a development agreement with Warner Estate cementing their commitment to the retail side of Waterside.
The agreement provides a legal and financial framework under which the council and the developers will deliver the project.
