Aylesbury MP David Lidington has set a good example over expenses

That's the view of correspondent Simon Icke, of Aston Clinton.

It's a pity other Conservative MPs haven't followed Mr Lidington's good example and kept their expense claims to the minimum rather than the maximum.

Perhaps as such an honest man it should be Mr Lidington who should be standing for the Speaker of The House in the forthcoming vacancy. It needs someone like him to clean up this terrible expenses scandal that has gone unchecked for far to long.

I think Mr Lidington can hold his head up high, unlike many other MPs in all the main parties who should be ashamed of themselves for milking the system for years.

Let's hope there are enough independent anti-sleaze candidates like Esther Rantzen standing against MPs who have had their noses in the trough for far too long. I think local people are pleased that Mr Lidington is not one of these MPs.
