Arrest of man over bike thefts sparks police warning

The arrest of a man in connection with the theft of several push bikes has sparked a police warning telling cyclists to keep their bikes more secure.

The 18 year old from Aylesbury Vale was arrested on Saturday, August 16 in relation to the thefts in the High Street, Aylesbury, on January 21 and August 3. He received an adult caution for the offences.

A recent increase in town centre bike thefts has led the neighbourhood team is asking residents ensure they purchase good quality locks, with individual keys, to secure their bikes in town.

Officers advised cyclists to lock the bikes in built-up areas where there is likely to be lighting, CCTV and members of the public around.

It is also suggested that cyclists should mark their bike with their postcode.

Police are asking the public to be extra vigilant around the town centre and report any suspicious activity by calling non-emergency number 101.
