Woman badly injured in canal barge accident

A tree which fell on a canal barge in a Vale village has left a woman seriously injured.
Emergency services were called to Stoke Hammond on Thursday after two men and a woman were thrown overboard and injured following a collision involving a narrowboat and a fallen willow tree.

It happened on the stretch of the Grand Union Canal between Mill Lane and Tyrells Road.

Firefighters, police, ambulance and air ambulance crews were called shortly after 4pm.

A 62 year old woman was rushed to Milton Keynes hospital and is described as being in a critical condition.

Paramedics checked two men at the scene.

Five other people on the narrowboat escaped injury.
