Pupils and staff at John Colet School are celebrating new statistics which put the spotlight on 'value-added' education.
The CVA 'contextual value added' rating for a school measures the achievements of pupils since their first day, allowing a clearer assessment of how much a school has contributed to the youngster's progress.

It's regarded by many as a fairer way of looking at a school's worth because pure exam results and other 'raw' data can be skewed by the varying standards of pupils as they arrive.

Most schools in the UK score around a CVA average of 1000, but with 1050.7 for its A/AS-level results, the Wendover school has exceeded all expectations.

Head teacher Christine McLintock said: "The progress measured over the last two years since their entry after GCSEs is absolutely astounding and I am so proud.

"Our Year 13 pupils were a superb set of hard working students who we knew would achieve excellent results, but when the final mark came through – well, we weren't expecting such a difference when compared to other schools.

"About half of the grades achieved in the year were As and Bs but the tables display the pupils and staff's hard work that has well and truly paid off."

Just under half of Aylesbury's schools remained below the 1000 benchmark with The Mandeville Specialist Sports college gaining 958.7 and Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School with 984.3.

Not much further up the tables is the Cottlesloe School with 987.7 and The Misbourne School scoring 995.2.

The remaining four schools within the area all gained above the average 1000.

Aylesbury High School scored 1005.2 and Aylesbury Grammar School 1009.4.

Princes Risborough school posted 1010.7 and Waddesdon Church of England School showed notable improvement by pupils with 1021.5.

Christine McLintock added: "The pressure is on for this year's pupils to maintain the same level of achievement, but they are an exceptionally hardworking set of pupils who are extremely focused and want to emulate last year's results."

Each one of last year's students who have gone on to further education successfully achieved the grades needed to gain entry into their chosen university.

Current Year 13 pupils are awaiting their own offers as their A/AS level exams approach.
