Aylesbury Vale District Council has been forced to hammer out an extra £1million of savings for the next 12 months.
Councillor Neil Blake, who is responsible for finance, told members of the full council that with government grants set to fall, cash will need to be saved.

He said: "We're looking at over £1million to save, taking into account the assumptions we've made about what grants we're going to get.

"Our heads of services were locked up in a room and told to come up with some broad ideas to save money.

"We've potentially identified around £1million of savings for the next year."

And he said: "As portfolio holder, I'll meet with heads of service to go through savings and report back to the cabinet."

Cllr Lindsay Rowlands said: "Leaving it to the next budget isn't an option."

Savings that will no doubt be passed on to the local resident by way of reduced public services and increased charges such as parking etc etc.

Meanwhile the great and the good of AVDC sit in their new chamber, the brainchild of the local Tories, which has cost the local taxpayer £9 million pounds for the use of 10 meetings per year.

Still Aylesbury...you voted them back into power...yet again!

AVDC need to save £1million? Was that not the case when it was reported last week that they will be funding the new Shopping Centre build, and recouping the money over 25 years. Taken from the story "...Construction should start in January and finish by Spring 2012.
Aylesbury Vale District Council is funding the work, recouping its outlay over 25 years through leasing out the buildings."...

What's the point of saving £1million, when you're going to spend £18million on a shopping centre in the same time period, and that's only the initial estimated cost.

And are we forgetting the fancy roof on the aqua vale pool? The quote for that seems to increase by about £1million per year - another waste of cash.

And what's happened to all the money clawed in from the sale of council houses?
Oh yes, that's right - it's been spent. It's been used to prop up the already over budget theatre.

Still, what else can we expect from the Vale of the White Elephant?

Well the electorate of Aylesbury Vale will have their chance to do something about this when the AVDC Councillors seats come up for re-ecelction next year!

Don't hold your breath through. People talk about wanting change, but when it comes down to it, tend to stick with what they know.

I would urge anybody fed up with AVDC's constant waste of public money to do something about it at the ballot box next year, don't sit at home, get out and exercise your right to vote the ruling Tories out of power.
