THE total amount of money invested in Icelandic banks by local authorities has reached £46.5 million.
Following the collapse of Landsbanki, money deposited by councils and the police in the Bucks Herald circulation area.
The biggest depositer is Hertfordshire County Council who have £28 million invested in Iceland, dwarfing the combined total of all the other authorities that serve our readership.
Bucks County Council and Thames Valley Police each have £5 million at risk along with £3 million deposited by Aylesbury Vale District Council and Hertfordshire Police.
Wycombe District Council, which serves Princes Risborough, have £2.5 million invested and Dacorum Borough Council say they did not deposit any money in the Icelandic banks.
Chris Williams, chief executive at BCC, said: "We understand that the money placed on deposit with Landsbanki is being held by the Icelandic government and will be returned to us in due course."
