Agonising long queues at the Rabans Lane dump in Aylesbury should now be a thing of the past following the opening of a
new Household Waste Recycling Centre in Aston Clinton.
The £2million facility is Bucks County Council's latest weapon in the battle to increase waste recycling rates to 60 per cent by 2025.

Those behind the College Road North site say its modern design will allow traffic to move easily around the recycling bins and containers, which are arranged on a one-way circuit.

And with space for half a mile of on-site queuing, they believe the prospect of cars waiting to use the facility backing up into the road will be prevented.

The environment around the site has also been well considered.

When landscaping is finished at the end of the year, there will be 760 metres of new hedgerow, rare Black Poplar trees will be planted and protected, while a new pond will also be built for ecological and flood prevention purposes.

In addition, many of the ground materials used to construct the centre were recycled. Even spare space at the centre is being utilised - the loft of the re-sale building is to be used to store archive papers.

Martin Tett, county council portfolio holder for planning and the environment, cut the ribbon at the entrance to the centre on Friday.

Have used it. It's great. Any worries I had about it impacting on Aston Clinton village were unfounded. It's miles away.

With any luck, we may now be able to open our windows without being deafened by the racket from the Rabans Lane site. It's about time the South side of Aylesbury took their share of the town's infrastructure.

I take it back. The racket from the Rabans Lane site is worse than ever this morning (Saturday).

Neil, unlike Rabans Lane they have ensured that the Aston Clinton site is nowhere near residential areas.

In fact it's miles away from the actual village area itself. on a turning off the A41 bypass.

It's , broadly speaking half way between Aston Clinton & Bierton, in the middle of nowhere and a bother to nobody.

Are you seriously suggesting that the local authorities favour the south??? (tounge in cheek)

Hurray. Pleased to see that the CC has opened this much-needed facility so quickly. I look forward to having an opportunity to visit. Some good news at last.
