DISTRICT planning officers have been told to renegotiate with Aylesbury Art and Crafts over the design of their security shutters.
Joint owners Jayesh Patel and Sam Kalyan are seeking retrospective permission to keep the external roller shutters on the shop front, which they say are essential to prevent vandalism.

Alterations were also proposed to amend the appearance of the recessed fascia sign to the front, so that it projects further out over the shutters.

Council officers advised the Development Control Committee, which met this afternoon, to refuse the Kingsbury shop's planning application.

However, councillors ordered their planning officers to renegotiate with the independent Kingsbury shop.

Mr Kalyan said he was disappointed they were not approved, adding there was not much room for negotiation.

Do you think permission should have been granted for the shutters?

Are they being paid a backhander by some big corporation that wants the site?

This whole episode sounds like the Planning officers are trying to shut the stable door. Over the decades AVDC planners have systematically concreted over everything historic in the old town, leaving just the Kings Head and St Marys area left.

Now they try and suggest it's a conservation area? Rubbish, if it was a conservation area, how can they justify four bars (with late licences) and over 6 food outlets?

Of course the shutters should have been approved, who are they going to offend? The eye will be drawn away from these shutters by the drunken revellers leaving the pub, fast food outlets, the police cars passing by and those dreadful water fountains.

Good on Mr. Patel and Mr. Kalyan standing their ground.

What do our planners want, it is disgusting to think you can get drunk or eat yourself stupid but may not be able to purchase their art materials. These people must be helped this is Aylesburys prime artist materials shop. If the Police cant keep it protected then this surely is the last resort. Good luck Mr Patel and Mr Kalyan.

There is a process to be followed - planning permission - it was not followed therefore the shutters must come down straight away.
Then if the owners want to consider to put them back they must apply for permission. Follow the rules that was they are there for to be followed.
