(WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 19). A MAN convicted of stabbing a shop assistant in Aylesbury 18 years ago is to appeal against his murder conviction.
Andrew Allder was 17 when he was charged with killing 67-year-old sales assistant Kathleen Turner in Kingsbury on May 18, 1987.
Allder signed a police confession at the time, which he later claimed he did falsely, arguing he only did it so he could go home.
He stayed in prison for 17 years, seven years longer than the recommended minimum sentence. He refused to take part in any rehabilitation programmes because he says it would have been an admission of guilt.
The victim's family has dismissed his claim, and expressed disappointment that the matter has been brought into the public domain again by Allder.
