A CLUB in Aylesbury is to have its licence reviewed following an incident earlier this year.
Over the last year, the Lounge nightclub, in Market Square, has been the scene of four reported violent incidents as a result of someone being glassed or bottled and in total police have been called to the premises 56 times for incidents inside or immediately outside the nightspot.
In a letter to the licensing committee at AVDC Thames Valley Police licensing officer, Trevor Hooper said: "Given the challenges faced by the police and the community within the Aylesbury area, we believe that there can be little confidence that these incidents at the premises will not continue. It is well known that one such incident involving the use of a glass or bottle causing injury costs well over £100,000 to the country taking up time of the police, ambulance service, hospitals, after care etc."
He added: "It can be said that these premises take up the majority of policing time within the town centre."
On May 20 there was a serious disturbance at the premises and when police arrived they could see that there had been large scale disorder with glasses and bottles thrown around causing injuries to three people's faces. One woman was admitted to the John Radcliffe Hospital after she was critically injured.
Club owner, Myles Richardson, said that they had already implemented the recommendations made by police and increased security.
Among the recommendations police believe there should be a reduction in opening hours, drinks should be served in plastic vessels and CCTV upgraded.
The licensing and gambling acts sub-committee will sit on Tuesday July 29 at AVDC's Meeting Room, The Gateway, Gatehouse Road.
