Public services in the Vale need to pay a lot more attention to Eastern Europeans, a meeting has been told.
The comments came as district councillors discussed a new community cohesion strategy last week.

Councillor Raj Khan said: "There's nothing in it about Romanians and Eastern Europeans.

"I have a lot of dealings with that community, but there's no infrastructure for them.

"They've come to me saying they've been robbed, but don't know who to turn to.

"We should be putting more effort into supporting them."
And he continued: "In my opinion this is geared too much toward the established communities.

"More needs to be done for the people that are just moving into Aylesbury, like the Arab community."

And Councillor Alan Sherwell, who leads the council's Lib Dem group, said: "If someone comes into a school in Aylesbury and their first language is Urdu, there will be other people who they will be able to speak to.

"But if their first language is Estonian or Bulgarian, they may not have that support.

"We mustn't ignore that."

The council said that Eastern Europeans are included when the report refers to black and ethic minorities.

"They've come to me saying they've been robbed, but don't know who to turn to."
Do they not have a police force in other countries then?
I find it really strange that they have the wherewithall to track down a local councillor and yet have no idea how to contact the police.

Well said JR, too angry to comment otherwise as diplomacy is not my first language (to whom do I turn?)

Dear Councillor Raj Khan,

I am considering moving to Spain with my family because I am seeking work and feel my skills could fetch a higher wage over there. It is my choice to move over there but I am not going to bother to learn anything about where I am going. When I will get there I will demand that all my needs are catered for. I will ask my local Councillor to point me to the local fighters and I will expect free healthcare. I will then demand that they will cater, at huge expense, to my English speaking children in their Spanish school.

I'm am sorry, am I living in a make believe world or it this the biggest waste of political direction I have seen recently? If a person makes an active choice to move to a country they apparently know nothing about, then should it not be their responsibility to learn about the simple things rather than have it all handed to them on a plate when they get here?

Hmmmm, what could that money be spent on? Hang on, I could thinks of about a hundren causes more deserving!

In this instance my screen name could not be more incorrect.

Kind regards,

A very unhappy resident

Well said JR, it doesn't take to much of a leap in imagination to guess why they might not wnat to get the police involved. There are too many politicians both locally and nationally who think that we must all bend over backwards to help immigrants (from wherever) and who believe that throwing money, in the form of ever more services, at the problem is rather better than applying a bit of common sense and saving the money, particularly in these straightened economic times. One of the first things to be looked at should be the councillors own expenses and allowances, too many of them make way better than reasonable pay for taking on more and more roles as members or chairmen of this or that committee of as many councils and quangos as they can lay their hands on. Its a self-perpetuating gravy train, no wonder most of them don't have real job any more.

Another non-story in the Herald this week from a Councillor looking for a headline. If they [Councillors in this town] weren't so wrapped up in their own egos they might do something worth while for a change that would benefit the majority.

Councillor Raj Khan might want to check his facts too, Romania joined the EU in January 2007. Most if not all of the other Eastern European countries are also part of the EU. This makes them MIGRANT WORKERS not immigrants.

#4 makes a very interesting point - " I will then demand that they will cater, at huge expense, to my English speaking children in their Spanish school"

Perhaps this should be noted on the other thread - where BCC are looking for ways to save shedloads of cash.
Does anybody know if #4's scenario (above quote) would happen - would a child who only speaks English be catered for in a school where only Spanish (or any other EU country) is spoken or are we the only ones who will, at great expense to us, put special measures in place to cater for the needs of the minority?
