A power firm is making substantial investments in villages around Aylesbury in order to reduce power cuts and interruptions.

Homes in Weston Turville, Stoke Mandeville and some parts of Aston Clinton should notice an improvement in the reliability of their service by the end of the year.

UK Power Networks has already commenced work on the major investment programme expected to cost in the region of £300,000.

The company is carrying out work at the Dobbins Lane feeder in Wendover and Stoke Mandeville interconnector.

Some work is subject to obtaining access and permission from land owners and highways consent from the local authority, but the energy company believes this will be forthcoming.

UKIP district councillor Phil Yerby has welcomed the news which came after he held a meeting with the East Anglian regional manager of UK Power Networks to explain the effect on residents of electricity interruptions and the need for action.

He said: “I think this is genuinely good news for Weston Turville, Stoke Mandeville and even parts of Aston Clinton. I have been campaigning for nearly two years on this and feel as though I am finally getting there.”

Following the meeting UK Power Networks area manager Ian Rudd wrote to Mr Yerby outlining their plan of works.

This includes replacing and upgrading components on the existing 11KV network and allowing remote operation from a control centre without the need to send out a repair man to the site.

The work will involve some planned interruptions and on these occasions customers will be notified by letter at least five days before their electricity supply is interrupted.

Mr Rudd said: “We fully recognise that the network reliability performance has fallen short of the service levels we strive to provide to our customers.” He also apologised for the inconvenience caused to customers.
