Writing about the past could be Tom’s future
Tom Wright has published a book called In Days Gone By
A LEVEL student Tom Wright is working harder than most – after publishing his first novel aged just 16.
The Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School pupil has spent five hours a night for a year writing In Days Gone By. The fictional book is set in 1984 and follows a man as he tries to prevent a nuclear war.
“I was always very keen on history,” says Wright, of Aylesbury – who is studying maths, physics, chemistry and history. “To begin with it was a personal project but when I showed it to a couple of people they were impressed. People who have read it have said they really like it. They liked the way that most of the book is focused on the tension on individual people.”
A friend is now hoping to turn the story into a film and Wright says he will write another if sales go well. “But for me it was a personal project. I’m happy if people enjoy it,” he says modestly.
