Waddesdon Manor throws open gates for arts weekend

Two thousand performers will take to four stages in the gardens at Waddesdon Manor at the end of this month for the annual MAD About Waddesdon weekend which will have an estimated audience of 14,000 people.

The event, taking place on June 27 and 28, is an action packed spectacle of music, dance, drama, poetry, story telling, film, photography and much more, performed and presented throughout the gardens of the stately home.

The festival was conceived in 2005, out of Waddesdon Manor's ambition to create a closer working relationship with the local community.

Not only will it be an opportunity to experience the talent, energy and creativity at the heart of the schools and community of Aylesbury Vale, there are also performances and workshops over the two days with plenty for all the family to enjoy.

Craig Revel Horwood, star of Strictly Come Dancing, will be leading a workshop on musical theatre and other workshops will cover all sorts, from cheerleading to drama. There will also be an opportunity to try your hand at the climbing wall.

There will be plenty on offer for younger visitors in the Children's Zone. Swishwiffling storytellers from the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre will be sharing some of Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes and there will also be an opportunity to create an enormous crocodile.

Children can help create some giant Umbul Umbul flags, from Bali, with local artist Stu Mclellan, have their faces painted and have a go on some fairground rides.

Schools taking part in the festival include Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School, Tring Park Arts Educational School, Waddesdon Church of England School, Princes Risborough School and many more.

During the MAD weekend, normal house and gardens admissions apply.

Adults can get into both the house and gardens for 15 while for children (5-16), the cost is 11.

For the gardens only, the cost is 7 for adults, 3.50 for children and 17.50 for a family ticket (two adults and two children) .
