Tribute-a-rama at Waterside this week

Music fans are spoilt for choice this week as four of the UK’s finest tribute shows have chosen to perform at the Waterside.

The unusual line-up sees Illegal Eagles on Thursday (tonight), Buddy Holly And The Cricketers on Friday, Motown’s Greatest Hits on Saturday (pictured) and That’ll Be The Day rock’n’roll tribute show on Monday.

Despite appealing to similar audience demographics, as most of the shows focus on stars and songs from the 50s and 60s, the boss of the Aylesbury theatre believes all four acts will pull in the crowds.

Jamie Baskeyfield , the Waterside’s general manager, said: “In order to bring the diversity of programming we promise our audiences, alongside week long shows, we also set aside space in our programming to offer a variety of one-night shows which tend to run in succession.

“These shows tour all year round and we work with them to schedule a date which fits into their touring schedule and our diary.”

The theatre is known as a ‘receiving house’, because it does not create its own shows and has a team who spend their time luring the best touring acts to the venue.

Mr Baskeyfield said: “Our programming team works hard with producers to bring the widest selection of shows on the touring circuit to Aylesbury.

“We have seen some fantastic new producers and companies such as the Royal Shakespeare Company start to bring shows to the town.

“We’re delighted in a week following comedy from Rhod Gilbert, music from Joan Armatrading and the popular return of Psychic Sally Morgan, to bring a number of fantastic tribute acts to Aylesbury which we know are so popular with our audiences.”
