Third dimension arrives at Bucks County Museum

The amazing world of holograms brings another dimension to the County Museum in Aylesbury.

The Holograms 2 exhibition is a great opportunity to see more fantastic holograms created by leading holographic artists using different techniques.

Visitors will see a full range of holograms including early single-colour examples, rainbow holograms as seen on credit cards and packaging, and the latest full-colour and digital holograms.

Collector Jonathan Ross (no, not that one!), who is bringing his exhibition to Aylesbury, has been interested in holograms for the last 30 years and has been collecting work for 20 years.

He said: "It is when I started doing these exhibitions that I realised that there was a need for it.

"I was quite well placed to pick up the pieces from the pioneers of this as I got to meet the artists and go to their studios.

"In the exhibition there will be images which have been created using the latest digital techniques. The early holograms are like crafts whereas the newer ones are like a commercial printing facility.

"These days you can design it all on a computer.

He added: "There is one piece which has been especially made for the exhibition. It is a porcelain strawberry jug which I bought from an antique centre in Princes Risborough about five years ago. I

"It is in a display cabinet and you can really believe it is housed behind there."

The wide range of subjects will appeal to all ages, from portraits to objects and contemporary art to the truly bizarre. There is also a section which appeals to children including a Punch and Judy and some clowns.

Examples of how holograms have been used in consumer items such as CDs, clothes and jewellery as well as books, comics and toys will be on display.

The exhibition is open from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm and on Sundays from 2pm to 5pm.
