The Hangover (15) now showing at Aylesbury Odeon
At first glance, The Hangover looks like like yet another addition to the growing band of average buddy style comedies that are becoming common place on our cinema screens.
In fact though, this film is anything but, and that is a testament to just how superior the end product of director Todd Phillips and the excellent cast is compared to the usual films in this genre.
Three friends (Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianikis) wake up after a stag night in glitzy Las Vegas to discover that the groom is missing and, predictably, that they can't remember anything of the previous evening.
With the wedding just 24 hours later, they must track down the groom and get him to the church on time.
The trailers for these films often contain all the humour, but this film throws out so many funny situations you will be laughing non stop for at least the first hour, even if the final act is a bit forced.
The film also contains one of the strangest celebrity cameos you will see.
There is a strong chemistry between the leads in the film and everyone in the group certainly has a well defined role - Cooper is the alpha male, Helms the token whiner but Galifianikis steals the show.
The scriptwriters deserve enormous credit because no matter how funny the film is, it will inevitably fall flat on its face if the relationships between the central characters don't work.
It was truly refreshing to be able to watch a genuinely funny, laugh out loud film after all the average offerings that have been served up to cinema goers recently.
And, as the cast are relatively unknown, the film will surely be sold on word of mouth alone which I suppose I am doing now with this review.
If you like purile, immature films, this is definitely for you.
Its one of the films you could watch if you are having a really bad day.
It will definitely make you feel better about everything that is going wrong in your life.
It has taken above average comedy films like Superbad and Knocked Up to the next level and really is worth a watch.
In fact, this is quite possibly the best, most hilarious hangover that I, and I hope everyone who sees the film, will ever have.
