The spectacular work of Ed Org
FOR a spectacular display of beautiful and stunningly executed drawings visit Obsidian Art's latest exhibition featuring the work of the talented Ed Org.
Ed Org has been working as a professional artist for the past 15 years and has established a strong following all over the country with many people now collecting his work.
This is the third year Obsidian has hosted a one-man show for Ed, and this exhibition features more than 60 originals, including several new works, and work based on Lord of the Rings from his degree show back in the 1970s.
Ed's biggest influence is Edward Burne-Jones, from the Pre-Raphaelite movement, and also by the great Victorian-age book illustrators such as Arthur Rackham, Willy Pogany, Charles Robinson and others.
With subjects including classic mythology, folklore, Arthurian legend, Shakespeare, myth and magic, as well as woodlands and rivers, the over-riding feel of the exhibition is beauty and exquisite detail.
For those who like to appreciate the art of beautiful drawing and are glad to see that in the age of computer-aided design and abstract or shock Brit-art, that there are artists who still practice the art of drawing.
The artist was born in Shropshire, where he had an idyllic childhood among woods, fields, secret pools and ruined barns, which helped fire his imagination for mythological work.
He completed a Fine Art degree in the 1970s, with his final degree show based on The Lord of the Rings. Until the early '90s Ed worked as a graphic designer in the advertising industry.
In 1993 he chose to follow his heart and leave safe employment to pursue his own path, and started to create personal works on a mythological theme as intricate pencil drawings, and also in watercolour.
His larger works can take up to 18 months to complete – and few viewers fail to be impressed by the level of detail down to the leaves and moss depicted in this works.
The landscapes of Devon, the Lake District and local woodland are a feature in many of his pieces. Due to the time it takes to complete each piece his original work is now highly sought after. Ed also produces prints of many of his works at very affordable prices.
Ed has undertaken numerous commissions, the most notable being several corporate designs for the Wychwood Brewery.
An opportunity to see a very unusual art show of very beautiful and detailed work, that is both original and unique and should appeal to lovers of mythology, folklore, literature and art.
