MAKING SHAKESPEARE FUN FOR THE YOUNG

(TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14) MOPA Theatre Company is changing the way theatre - especially Shakespeare - is experienced, understood and appreciated by young people across the UK.

MOPA, based in Hertfordshire, was set-up by artistic director Nic Brownlie in 1997 to bring inspirational and innovative theatre into schools.

Nic was frustrated at the way English Literature was being taught and believed the key to really understanding Shakespeare is to recognise the characters and situations, then build empathy with them, to take it off the page and into real life.

This allows pupils of all ages to understand, appreciate and love Shakespeare.

MOPA stands for Method of Physical Action, which was a legendary acting system invented by the Russian actor and director Konstantin Stanislavski who co-founded the Moscow Art Theatre in 1897.
