UK FACEPAINTER of the year Zoë Thornbury-Phillips will reveal some of her secrets this weekend at a special workshop in Aylesbury.

The 47 year old, of Berkhamsted, has worked on children’s TV shows, music videos, been hired by footballer Theo Walcott and is due to work with the cast of The Only Way Is Essex.

On Saturday she will holding a workshop at the Waterside Theatre for girls aged 11-16 to teach them about the history of make up – and some of the techniques used by modern stars such as Lady Gaga.

She said: “I have been doing workshops for about eight years, but this is the first time I have run one at the theatre. It is not just eye shadow and lipstick. There are tips, tricks and techniques than can make a dramatic impact.

“They will be doing brush strokes with paint brushes and colour blending with sponges and learning about glitter tattoos. I want them to learn techniques so that if they are going to a themed party they won’t be scared to have a go.”

The mum-of-two has been a professional face and body since 1995 and was named facepainter of the year in 2010. She has created vampire-themed make up for a series of book covers, painted ‘illusion clothes’ on page-three girls for Help for Heroes and worked on CITV show Jim Jam And Sunny.

Last year she won four awards for her make up on the band Kids In Glass Houses –in their music video for Animals.

The single-mum has also given Arsenal star Theo Walcott a makeover. She said: “He wanted to be made up as The Joker for a Halloween party. It was great, a good experience, he was a really nice man and it was fun.”

Producers of The Only Way Is Essex have also asked her to provide make up. “They are into their fantasy art and animal stuff. I guess they always need visuals for the TV show,” she said.

The face painting workshop takes place on Saturday, from 10.30am-12.30pm.
